A Rare Winter Snow




 

"Winter Harbor", a protected and sprawling inlet off the Chesapeake Bay between Mobjack and Gwynns Island, is recorded on the 1708 H. Moll Map of Virginia.

According to legend, it served as safe harbor for early sailing ships while awaiting the end of winter storms and return passage to the continent.

Major portions of its quiet and uninhabited shoreline and smaller inlets contain much of the last "undiscovered" natural landscape and wildlife of the Chesapeake Bay.
