Nelson Horsley, a local native to the Middlesex, Gloucester, Mathews and Lancaster areas, has grown up playing on the different parts of the Chesapeake Bay since childhood. He remembers riding his bike all through Gloucester to go crabbing where his grandparents owned a general store, going to Mathews to his grandmothers house and playing with his cousins or when life was just much simpler. Nelson still agrees with the simpler things in life, which makes selling in this area easy. Few stop lights in the towns, fisherman work boats still going out to make a living or watching the ospreys come in the spring and knowing it is time to put the crab pots out. All of these little things is why Nelson, as our principal brokers says, “we don’t just sell houses, we sell a lifestyle.”
Since 2006 when Nelson became out principal broker, he has been fair and trustworthy as a boss and friend to work with. He believes as Horsley is a family owned business, that the agents are family. Nelson has been with Horsley Real Estate almost since the doors opened in 1975. With Isabell, his mother, they have grown the real estate firm and industry here in the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck into our 4 office locations with almost 40 agents. Our numbers in sales have gone up along with the volume in numbers. Horsley has been growling each year, but Nelson gives that success to his agents as he does not compete with them in listings nor sales but is a gentle leader for the Horsley team. You might find Nelson playing a little more golf a few afternoons, but he will always answer his phone and be right there is one of the Horsley agents has a question on a contract or needs something for the office. You can tell when talking to Nelson he loves this area and loves the field of real estate, but takes pride in the family company started by his mother and that will continue on for the next generations to come.
