Richard was born and raised in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula area and is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Hampden-Sydney College. After returning from volunteer service in Peace Corps Zambia, Richard worked in his family seafood business, The Happy Clam. He then turned to a career in conservation and education, first as the Tidal River Steward for the Friends of the Rappahannock and currently as a middle school science teacher at Aylett Country Day School. Richard is also co-owner of Rappahannock Roundstern, a charter company specializing in scenic and historic tours of the Rappahannock River on iconic Chesapeake Bay roundstern deadrise boats.
Richard lives with his growing family of five at Simonson in Richmond County. Having spent a lifetime on the water, he looks forward to sharing his knowledge and experiences with clients out and about on any creek or shoreline of Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay watershed!
