Another Oyster Festival has come and gone, and we look forward to next year! Held on the first full weekend in November, in 2016 the festival will be on November 4th and 5th. Thousands of people come into the small waterfront town of Urbanna located in Middlesex County and enjoy arts, crafts, parades, dances, food and food and food!
On Friday, the food and fun starts around 10 am and goes into the evening. You can drive into town and enjoy all the festival has to offer. At 7 pm there is the Fireman’s Parade with fire trucks and emergency vehicles from all over Virginia. Afterward, there is the Fireman’s Dance. On Saturday the town is closed to traffic . . . there’s plenty of parking just outside town, and a short walk or shuttle ride takes you to the festivities. At 2 pm there is a wonderful parade through town, and the festivities continue until 6 pm.
Put on your walking shoes and come enjoy all the festival has to offer . . . oyster fritters, raw oysters, roasted oysters, fried oysters, oysters on a ham biscuit . . . you get the picture. And don’t miss the oyster shucking contest on Saturday morning. Pick up your annual poster and sweatshirt.
