Public Marinas on the Chesapeake
The Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula is home to the one and only Chesapeake Bay, which means some of the best boating in the nation (not just Virginia!). As a result, there are plenty of options when it comes to choosing a high quality private or public marina in the area. With over 30 different marinas, ranging from 250+ slips to just 16, there are a ton of options available to both transient and permanent boaters. Below you’ll find a sampling of our favorites.
Public Marinas in Lancaster County
Located between Tides Inn and the Rappahannock River, this 25 slip Marina is found on Carters Creek – one of the most prestigious on the bay. Crockett’s Landing was first built in 1940, though some of the buildings on site age’s are unknown. On-site you’ll find an oyster house, and a crab processing plant, as well as 4 bathrooms and other utility offices. Crockett’s Landing Marina is unique among marinas on this list, as it could be yours, making for an exceptionally rare opportunity.
The Tides Inn
In 1946 the Tides Inn began it’s transformation from an expansive waterfront farm known as The Ashburn Farm, into one of the premier resorts on the Mid-Atlantic region. After extensive renovations, this Chesapeake Bay resort was turned into the charming retreat that it is today. Found on a private peninsula on Carters Creek in the Chesapeake Bay, the Tides Inn offers unmatched waterfront views, lush landscapes, and a full-service marina, as well as golfing, and a spa to relax in. This marina features a floating dock that can accommodate up to 24 vessels, all the way up to 150-foot charter boats.

Yankee Sailboat Marina

Yankee Point Marina is found in Lancaster, Virginia, in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. This particular marina is a small, and exceptionally personal, marina that offers a unique charm unlike most in the Northern Neck. For instance, the Yankee Point Marina is one of the few in the area that offers a no fee “Do-It-Yourself” Boatyard and has one of the few remaining wooden boat shipwrights, which allows the experienced staff (each employee has a minimum of 20 years of marine repair services) to complete anything from re-fastening old wood boats to building a brand new state-the-art piece of cabinetry. Yankee Point Marina is on a mission to offer the best service around and even has a policy to provide free written estimates for any work necessary!
Carters Cove Marina

Located just eight miles from the Chesapeake Bay on the Rappahannock River, Carters Cove Marina is found on the Carters Cove branch of Carters. Windmill Point Marina

Windmill Point Marina is so much more than just a marina. Not only is it located in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, but with it’s floating and fixed Poralu docks in a protected harbor, Windmill Point makes for a relaxing slice of the bay. This marina is also just minutes away from some of the best fishing on the whole of the bay. With 96 slips and two pools, a pool bar with food service, and a public beach, Windmill Point makes for a relaxing destination to bring the whole family. Don’t forget to check out The Tiki Bar, located nearby for live music, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week. Smith Point Marina

Based in Reedville, Virginia, Smith Point Marina is found on the Little Wicomico River where it is joined by the Potomac River, just a few minutes away from the Chesapeake Bay. Smith Point Marina has the unique honor of having been designated the first Virginia Clean Marina on the Northern Neck. As a weigh-in station for the Northern Neck Angler’s club, you can expect some of the best fishing in the bay right here. Visitors will also find that Smith Point Marina is one of the quietest and simplest in the region. With no pool, mini golf, hot tub, or pool tab, even cable TV, you can expect to keep yourself busy the traditional way — with crabbing, walks in the country, or just enjoying the sunset and the company.

Unfortunately, due to a recent fire, the Dozier Port Urbanna marina is temporarily closed, though slip rentals and transient dockage can be found at the nearby Dozier’s Deltaville marina.
Urbanna Town Marina

The Urbanna Town Marina is found only .2 miles from downtown Urbanna, making it perfect for your shopping needs. With 15 transient slips and one 27-foot wide mega-slip, the Town Marina at Upton’s Point is perfect for boats over 90 feet. Established in 1987, the June Parker Marina is found right on the Tappahannock river in Essex County. With its 50-foot-wide launch ramp, floating wet slips, and dry storage, June Parker Marina makes for an amazing place to get out on to the river. Between the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff as well as the on-hand supplies, June Parker Marina is hard to beat. Unfortunately, after a recent fire at the marina, June Parker does not currently sell gas.
