Westmoreland county lies between the Potomac and the Rappahannock Rivers and is the largest county in the Northern Neck, with a population of about 17,000. The town of Colonial Beach is well known for its two miles of sandy beach, fishing pier, camping areas, and Colonial Beach Yacht Club. Montross is the county seat and home of Northern Neck Ginger Ale and the Northern Neck Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Ingleside Plantation Winery is a popular attraction.


Well-known for its rich history, Westmoreland was the birthplace of Presidents George Washington and James Monroe. Stratford Hall is the ancestral home of the Lees including General Robert E. Lee and Richard Henry Lee.


Westmoreland State Park was established in 1936 and has over 1,300 acres with one and a half miles of shoreline on the Potomac River, plus cabins, camping sites, beaches, pools, hiking trails and more.
